Instagram is planning to remove the Shop tab and move Reels from the center spot in the navigation bar as part of a redesign of its app. The redesign will take place in February 2023.
Instagram's Shop tab is a feature that allows users to connect with brands and discover their products . On the other hand, Reels is a feature designed as a competitor to TikTok, that allows users to discover short, fun videos from creators around the world. Instagram is simplifying its in-app navigation by removing the Shop tab and focusing more on Reels as it continues to compete with TikTok.
Instagram will also be returning the Compose button (the plus sign +) to the front and center of the navigation bar at the bottom of the app. This change is intended to make it easier for users to create content and share it with their friends and followers.
Instagram announced on Monday 9th January that the Create button will be put back in the center of its main navigation bar and the Shop tab will be removed.
